Here's why. For years we've suffered as being Christian Owned. Now with continued that the 'religious right' has made Corporate Christianity way beyond our tastes and against our founding vales to never be prejudice among other things, it has come to this decision.
Right now the decision to not bill ourselves as a Christian Owned company; is only temporary, but could become permanent at a later date. All vendors, employees, and others who choose to be Christian are welcome to be, and still be associated with our operation. We're not going to fire people or disassociate with any of the fine current businesses; or others we deal with over that. References to our Christian past will not be edited out of the text of our websites. For now these should be considered as being retained for historic reasons. If the decision become final, they may be removed at a later date.
Besides just 47 years of existence and yet being barely keeping our heads financially above water. The conservative Christian; who pretend to represent all Christians, has continued to make us and other Christians like us out as scapegoats. Some of the stuff we disagree with as a company include:
American slavery and hate groups + hazing. Had the church spoke up against slavery
of Blacks, Hispanics, Native Americans and and others, we wouldn't have the race wars we have today. The most damning part isn't even that this was done, but the support of efforts to keep multicultural history out of the classroom even at the college/university level of learning. Kinda like "don't ask don't tell" but for race relations. Almost anything dealing with diversity is written off as "woke"
Muslims have been viewed as enemies of American Freedom since September 11, 2001.
Just because they don't believe totally like Christians doesn't mean they hate our fine nation. Incidentally the Qur'an (though worded differently); parallels with the
Holy Bible for a substantial amount of the text.
They're against abortion; but don't want to assure newborns a good quality of life.
If they did, their stance on being prolife would remain, but they would urge their elected officials to quit cutting funding; for programs that help the poor. It makes little since to invite these newborns to a life of poverty in the 'richest nation on Planet Earth' -especially if their quality of life here wouldn't be too much better than living in a third world country.
There's a lot of support by the Republicans they elect for redistricting and other tactics to suppress voting and free speech. If you don't have free expression and the right to vote, what's the point of America existing? In fact freedom of religion and expression were the founding principles of America becoming a nation. By the way; "One Nation Under God" was not added to the Pledge of Allegiance until 1954.
Has always advocated against Gays (and others ) who were judged as sinners. Also had a desire to control everybody. To look at where that leads; one only has to look at the Salem witch trials and later prohibition. The Metropolitan Christian Church [or MCC] was started in San Francisco; because homosexuals who were believers were kicked out of Christian churches too damn much. Evidently that problem hasn't been solved; now they're worldwide. By the way; Jesus said to tell people about salvation, not force it on them with laws.
Was instrumental in turning a health epidemic into a political issue. If you don't care about your own parishioners, obviously you don't care about anyone else -and maybe not even yourself.
Continues to support bulling and controlling the houseless as outcasts. Ironically the same people worship a savior who was homeless from 12 years old until age 33 when he was crusified.
Support Israel even when they're wrong. We think they should continue to defend themselves against Hamas, Isis, and other such entities; but not at the expense of people who have noting to do with the conflict -including but not limited to Palestinians and those residing within the Gaza Strip.
As for the fonts we will continue to include Hebrew in them, but Arabic is now being added to some of them.
With the warped and terrible values listed and others, SWMCA in good conscience can not continue to bill itself as being Christian Owned, any longer!
